Mother's Day Message from Fr. Brandon
Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us...
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful moms! We will miss passing out carnations this weekend, but please know that the entire Ministry Team is offering you a “spiritual carnation” as we have all committed to praying one Hail Mary today for the moms of our community. Happy Mother’s Day from your Team here at St. Anne’s!
I was with my youngest sister a few days back, the one who just had a baby, and it was amazing to see how intuitive she has become. Just by watching some of the baby’s movements she was able to determine whether or not he was hungry, needed to be picked up, changed, etc.
looked at the baby, from one moment to the next, and could see no apparent change in his demeanor. I know things about the baby, but mom
the baby, and mom knows because mom loves.
This is the kind of intimacy that the Lord is seeking to develop in his relationship with us. The interaction between Jesus and Philip in today’s Gospel is revealing in that regard.
Years have gone by, so much time spent in the footsteps of the Master, Philip knows what Jesus has done, knows things about Jesus…yet he still does not
Jesus. You can almost hear the wound in Jesus’ reply, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip?”
Jesus does not want his disciples to simply understand things about him, he wants his disciples to
him… and the only way to truly come to such knowledge is through love. Jesus wants to be loved...sort of along the lines of the undivided love that a mother has for her child. God wants to be loved.
What will I do this week to express and strengthen my love for Jesus?
Happy Mother’s Day!
